Our Eco Island - Isle of Wight, August 2008

The Isle of Wight Council asked for Sinead Brophy Consulting's support  to place their plans for transforming health and social care services on the island at the heart of its plan to build a sustainable island community.

Excerpt from our report:

     We’re All in This Together

Eco Island is an ambitious strategy to make the Isle of Wight a thriving, dynamic and confident community in balance with its local environment. It will build stronger, healthier communities, with more opportunities for everyone to be part of local life. We want our Island Community to become a world renowned Eco Island, with a thriving economy and a real sense of pride, where residents and visitors enjoy healthy lives, feel safe and are treated with respect.

 We aim to make the island’s public services national standard setters for the support and care of its citizens. We will achieve this by harnessing the island’s uniquely separate character and significant natural resources including its people. Over one fifth of our population are of pensionable age with a lot of wisdom and experience to share. As islanders we know what it takes to make and sustain a community – we’ve been doing it for years. Our care and support services will be re-shaped so that this knowledge and experience can drive them forward towards a sustainable future for all..
